30 August My friend MaryMy Friend Mary is great. She has been an incredible blessing to me and a constant source of amusement ... in more ways than one. I realized today that there is one particularly amusing thing that I notice almost every time I see her. She has this great curly hair. Sorta like mine only thicker and therefore a bit poofier. I think it's great, she does not. (ahhh, the bain of most women's existence ... no?) but she told me this story a few months ago about how she was at a fair or something with her family and saw this nice pair of sunglasses on the ground. So, she picked them up and looked around and didn't see anyone they might belong to. She ended up taking them home. For awhile she was very excited about her new sunglasses since they were pretty nice sunglasses. Until she realized she was getting headaches whenever she wore them ... then she realized (as I'm sure many of you already have) that they were, in fact, prescription sunglasses. hee hee. CRACKED ME UP! Now this is funny enough in it's own right, but what really gets me is her solution. She also realized that these particular sunglasses are very good at holding back her hair ... like a headband. So, she kept them ... as a headband. You can run into Mary anytime this weekend and it's entirely possible, even likely that she'll have sunglasses on her head as a headband. the best part is that if i hadn't told you all this, you wouldn't realize that they aren't even her sunglasses! Youd' just think she did what everyone does and pushed them up on her head. So, that's my friend Mary and our funny story for today. :D 29 August News News NewsSo, I have not forgotten about you ... internet. Sincerely, I haven't. This site just isn't the most user friendly around and so much happened so fast that I didn't really have time (or, honestly, want to take the time) to write it all down etc. BUT, I'm here now! And, do I have news for you?!!!
So, last you knew I lived in my parents basement and worked part-time as a secretary. It was fine, but I got to that point where it was time to move on. so I did! I kinda freaked in the middle of it all because I realized that I had never actually done that in life. Simply decided that I needed, and could get, more than what I had and went for it. It freaked me out pretty bad ... for about 6 hours, then I was over it.
So, I work at Curves and I had shared with my ladies a few times that I was thinking about getting a different job, but that nothing really jived with me, so I kept plugging away where I was. Which, for the record, wasn't bad, just was getting to not be a very good fit for me. Well, one Tuesday (right before my vacation .... did you know about my vacation ??) I got a call at Curves from one of my ladies telling me about a job she knew of. Well, it was celerical help for her husband's insurance agency. I e-mailed in my resume on Weds, interviewed over my lunch hour on Thursday, got a call back that I missed (unfortunately) on Friday afternoon. e-mailed them on Saturday, set up a second interview WHILE I was away on vacation in Virginia on Tuesday, interviewed a second time with the owner (that friend's husband) and his office manager on Tuesday, got the offer Weds morning, got a counter offer Thurs morning and accepted the new job on Thursday lunch. And, yes, that is just how fast it happened and just how fast it FELT like it was happening. Just the way I like it. Not too much time to stew and worry and get anxious and worked up. The turning point, for those of you who are curious, was the health insurance. The new company will pay my health insurance in full. The old company offered me an increase hour total that came out to almost the exact same $ amt in net pay, BUT still wouldn't cover the multiple-hundreds of dollars I would owe every month for my health insurance premium. It just felt right and felt like it was time to move on. So, I did!
I've been there 5 weeks. I'm in the middle of week 6 ... I think. I thought I might be kinda alittle bit bored for the first couple of weeks until they could get me trained on enough things, but I really wasn't. I had a slow Friday that first Friday and I think I've only truly run out of things to do like twice since then. Which is NOT BAD for a girl who knows nothing about insurance and nothing about their particular computer programs. Clearly, I'm a quick learner. As far as I know they're very happy with my progress and performance thus far. Of course, there are petty annoyances and office politics, as you would have anywhere. But that is to be expected. Expecially with 13 people in the same building and only two of them being men. But, all in all it's been good and I can see a future there. I can see myself doing what I'm doing and getting better and better at it for quite awhile. I decided during the transition that I was going to shoot for 5 years here. Barring bizarre unforeseen circumstances or incredibly happy and unforeseen circumstances (marriage, duh!)
BUT WAIT .... There's more!! Because of the increase in pay and other family circumstances I was finally able to move out!!!! YAY FOR THE NEW APARTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pics are here, and here ... and here is the best! The apartment has been FAB-YOU-LESS!! Seriously. It's a sweet little two bedroom with a good view, a balcony ... and a door that locks! I keep joking about that because the basement did NOT have a door that locked ... or any door at all for that matter. hee hee.
So, funny story for today. As Ron White, a/k/a Tater, would say "I told you that story ... to tell you this one."
Last night I was sleeping in my lovely bed in my lovely peaceful, monet/flowers bedroom and woke up for whatever reason. I picked up my head to shift around or whatever and hear this buzzing by my ear. the ear that was JUST ON the pillow! So, being asleep and not truly aware of what I'm doing I swatted. Now there is enough ambient light in my bedroom at night that I could see something on my pillow. So, I leaned over and turned on the light. Lo and behold, what do I see??? Not only was it a mosquito and not only did I swat and kill it ... apparently IT WAS FULL! Yep, NASTY blood smear on my pillow ... at 1230 am. sooooooooo not happy. So, I took the pillow case off, rinsed it in the sink in my bathroom, looked around for some kind of stain remover anything and found nothin, so I hung it up and went back to bed. In my own bed. In my own bedroom. In my own apartment .... with a door that locks!!! hee hee. the end. Just a bit of grossness to lighten up your day ... maybe.
p.s. I am going to start posting "remote" entries where I e-mail them from elsewhere. so, if the formatting looks weird of the subject looks weird, give it a chance. Let's see what we think of it. ok?? ok. good!! |
